About This Item

"There is a world in one of the far-off stars, and things do not happen here as they happen there..."

A COLLECTION OF STORIES WITH SUBJECTS ON SPIRITUALITY, MYSTICISM, ANGELS, DREAM STORIES, AND MUCH MORE
A VERY RARE AND GENUINE DATE-STAMPED 1897 EDITON, BOUND IN LONDON 125 YEARS AGO AND IN VERY BEAUTIFUL CONDITION
THIS IS THE ONLY KNOWN 1897 WITH THIS COVER I CAN TRACE ON ANY KNOWN BOOK SITE IN THE WORLD

This is a mystical collection of dreams that I would call... "hauntingly beautiful." Within its pages, you will find the author's dreams, which speak of spirituality, angels, hell, other realms, and much more. I have many books, and this is unto its own—A genuine 1897 edition printed seventeen years before the First World War of 1914. Finding any print year of this book is a rarity, much less one over a century in the making. I have owned every 19th-century print year of this book ever made, and I have never seen one with this beautiful cover; needless to say, it is a rare bird indeed. They no longer make books like these; I don't think they ever will. I would snag this one before it's gone; a very hard-to-come-by edition, especially in this kind of condition.

"It contains grand passages, which indicate a struggling, aspiring, rising moral nature, capable of high conceptions and of true, deep insight." -Independent.

"The book stands as the only one of its kind. It is like seeing visions to read it; no one can read it understandingly and not be inspired to fresh struggles to attain the true, the good, and the beautiful." -Public Opinion.

It is a collection of allegories of life, as vividly condensed as tales by Maupassant or Coppee, but each opening up a long vista to the imagination….Miss Schreiner has thought much and deeply of the mysteries of human life before she poured out her doubts and longings in the story, and in these dreams, we may see the kernel of some of her best work." -San Francisco Chronicle.

To a small girl-child who may live to grasp somewhat of that which for us is yet sight, not touch.

"The book is a treasure for a lifetime….Never was there depicted a more earnest sympathy with the life that has lost its hold on good and wandered from its true course. The spiritual significance is as great as the intellectual grasp. The human life, the life next beyond this human life, are both sources of inspiration from which she draws." -Sunday Budget.

The overall condition of this book is excellent for an 1897 printing. The covers have some light shelf wear and age. The interior pages are naturally age-toned and have some average age and reading use. It contains some beautiful handwritten script on the previously blank free-endpaper.

These Dreams are printed in the order in which they were written.

In the case of two, there was a lapse of some years between the writing of the first and last parts; these are placed according to the date of the first part.
