The British writer Israel Zangwill (1864-1926) wrote plays and novels [including what might be the first "locked room" mysteries) and was one of the most prominent cultural Zionists of the day. Here is a volume of essays considering famed Jewish intellectuals as Spinoza and Heine. This is a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Red cloth binding, ruled and titled in gilt, with gilt decoration on the front cover. Clean text; vii, 537 pages; with a four-page catalog in the rear. Top-edge is gilt. Spine has faded to a brown but the gilt remains nicely bright, with rub to the head and foot. very light rub to the tips. Previous-owner signature on the FFEP. An extremely attractive copy of this significant. title. . First Canadian Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
