About This Item

Oxford: Printed by L. Lichfield, for A. Peisley Bookseller: and are to be sold by J. Knapton, W. Taylor, H. Clements, W. Meadows and J. Morphew Booksellers in, London, 1714. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. 8vo (in 4s), pp. 32, disbound; title browned. With an inscription in an early 18th century hand below the imprint that seems to read, "With yu are his 2 Confessor with an Arian." Edward Welchman (1685 - 1739), the editor of the most reliable 18th century edition of the Thirty-Nine Articles, was exactly the sort of Church of England clergyman who would have found Clarke's Scripture Doctrine of the Trinity (1712), with its doubts about the Trinity, objectionable, as this short pamphlet makes clear. ESTC locates numerous copies in these islands, and Duke, Folger, Huntington, UCLA, General Theological Seminary, Saint Mark's Library; and University of King's College, Nova Scotia in North America.
