About This Item

New York: Signet Books / New American Library, 1957. First Paperback Edition. Sharp copy of this early work by Heinlein, which won the first of his four Hugo Awards for Best Novel. "An actor is coerced into impersonating a kidnapped politician. The politician is recovered but soon dies. His staff persuades the actor to continue the act and carry out the ambitions of the politician. An approving but informative view of the morality of politics" (Barron, Anatomy of Wonder 3-199). An uncommon advance. First Printing, a review copy, with the publisher's typed slip laid in. Octavo (18.25cm); original pictorial card wrappers; dark red edge-staining; [5],6-159,[1]pp. Pinpoint wear to spine ends and extremities, subtle tanning to text edges, with a faint crease to upper right corner of front wrapper, and an even fainter one to lower rear wrapper; Near Fine.
