London: The Hogarth Press. 1952. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Original teal cloth with titles to the spine in gilt, in the Lynton Lamb illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth slightly rubbed at the extremities. The contents, with a spot to the bottom corner of the text block edge and a few light foxing spots to the endpapers at the gutter, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. Complete with the very good lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a few tiny closed tears to the extremities which have be repaired to the underside with small pieces of tape. Not price clipped (11s 6d to the front flap). The author's last novel. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Synopsis

Henry Green was the pen name of Henry Vincent Yorke. He was born in 1905 at the family home of his parents, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England, and was educated at Eton and Oxford. He worked at the family engineering firm for most of his life and pursued a parallel career as a novelist. He married in 1929 and had one son. During WWII he served for the duration in the London Fire Brigade. He died in December 1973.
