About This Item

Reilly & Lee, 1908. Hardcover. Fair/None. Late form of the third state, circa 1916. Text has been reimposed. 16 color plates without captions. Reilly & Lee printed on spine, but Reilly & Britton printed on title page. Yellow background on cover pictorial label. Condition: Previous owner's name penned on inside front cover and ownership page. Last two color plates (originally tipped in) are detached from binding and a bit frayed at edges. Binding overall is solid. Black and white endpapers; hinges are intact. Pages are age-toned and show wear typical for age. Turquoise fabric covers show areas of soiling and fading. Cover label has much spotting and a small area of surface loss over the word "the" in title. A well-loved copy. Books that sell for $9 or more ship in a box; under $9 in a bubble mailer. Expedited and international orders may ship in a flat rate envelope rather than a box due to cost constraints. All US-addressed items ship with complimentary delivery confirmation.

Synopsis

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is the fourth book set in the Land of Oz written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by John R. Neill. It was published on June 18, 1908 and reunites Dorothy with the humbug Wizard from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This is one of only two of the original forty Oz books (the other being The Emerald City of Oz) to be illustrated with watercolor paintings. Baum, having resigned himself to writing a series of Oz books, set up elements of this book in the prior Ozma of Oz.
