New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1958. First Edition. Very Good+/Very Good-. First edition stated on copyright page. In original unclipped ($2.95) jaket in protective sheet. Rubbing, minor creasing, and some chipping to jacket. Designed paper over boards in purple and white with white labels and black lettering on spine; publisher's device on rear. Rubbing to edges, slightly cocked. Former owner names on front pastedown. Long edge deckled. The interior is evenly toned, generally clean and clear (I saw one marginal spot in my review).

Synopsis
Ross Macdonald's real name was Kenneth Millar. Born near San Francisco in 1915 and raised in Ontario, Millar returned to the U.S. as a young man and published his first novel in 1944. He served as the president of the Mystery Writers of America and was awarded their Grand Master Award as well as the Mystery Writers of Great Britain's Gold Dagger Award. He died in 1983.
