About This Item

London England: The Banner of Truth Trust. Hardback. Very slight foxing to edge. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. This long out-of-print volume on The Holy Spirit has been regarded by many as the standard work on this doctrine. The author, ordained to the ministry in 1839, became one of the foremost theological leaders in the Free Church of Scotland during the evangelical revival which took place in Scotland a century ago. Dr. Smeaton, as well as possessing, in the view of his colleage James Macgregor, 'the best-constituted theological intellect in Christendom', was 'a man of deep and unaffected godliness'. These qualities are both evident in this book. 'Smeaton on the Holy Spirit', writes Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, 'provides in many ways the best practical teaching on this subject that I know. He deals with the theological aspect in a clear and plain manner but is always careful to apply the truth both to the Church and to the individual. There is also an excellent survey of the history of the doctrine in the Church through the centuries'. 372 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . Very Good. Cloth. Reprint. 1961.
