About This Item

Volumes 1 & 2: Redbook Magazine. Very Good+. 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Two hardcover volumes in 1 in green cloth spine on gray cloth boards with affixed paper label title to front board, and 2 black cloth spine, both with their marker ribbons. No dust jackets, as issued. First editions. Vol. 1, 119 pages, sun fade and wear to spine ends, silverworm damage to rear endpaper outer edge. Vol. 2, 112 pages, a couple of uncut pages. Both volumes were privately printed for Redbook Magazine in 1938, reprinting stories by Hall that originally appeared in the magazine. Hall is best known as cowriter with Charles Nordhoff of the novel Mutiny on the Bounty. The six stories in Doctor DogbodyÕs Leg are set in a Portsmouth tavern called the Cheerful Tortoise, where a Royal Navy surgeon tells a series of stories about how he lost his leg during the Napoleonic wars. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards chose these books as among those few he would take to a desert island. Free of any markings, not ex-library. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
