This is one of Bukowski's best collections of poetry, written shortly after he'd "made it" with musings about his new found comfortable life in San Pedro, as well as material concerning his earlier, more troubled times in East Hollywood, Los Angeles. Some wonderfully witty writing in here with poems about mortgages and tax accountants, as well as the standard fare of race tracks, classical music, and bad sex. One of the best Bukowski poetry books from his mid-period.

Two of the poems, "Ferragosto" and "Norfolk," were written especially for this edition. "Easter" was previously published in Harper's magazine, and "In Wicklow" and "Voices" previously appeared in The New Yorker. Toned parchment substitute wove paper printed damp on a Washington handpress in black and light brown. Covers are glued boards covered with matching Ingres paper screenprinted in black and yellow with a leaf-and-berry pattern.

This German edition in English is slightly smaller than the American edition and was issued in about 100 copies. The facsimile envelope is addressed to the author at "69 Cachinnation Row, Catatonia City." Package contains a folded "letter" and 10 silkscreened cards that answer the question of what Bukowski's "typical day" is like. Illustrated by the author in red, yellow, blue, green & black silkscreened artwork illustrated by Bukowski.

This slim hardcover, the Author's First Book, was issued without a dust jacket, Jeffers paid to have the book published in an edition of 500 copies, with the vast majority of those sold to a used book store, his authorial credit uses his full name (later shortened to just Robinson Jeffers). Very good minus with general soiling and age, Holmes Book Company of Los Angeles stamp to front free endpaper, the word "Apples" on the spine label is mostly obscured, the front cover label has tiny chipping around the edges, not affecting any of the text or the decoration.
