Webster & Co., 1887. xix, 685 pp., red cloth w/ gold lettering & black & silver decoration & illustration; Book shows wear to ends of spine w/ a bit of fraying to heel; corners of boards bumped & worn; spine shows some darkening, a little wrinkling & some scrapes, w/ wear along edges; boards show light to moderate soil overall w/ a number small bumps, scrapes, scratches & rubs; some rubbing to silver decoration of front board; page block shows darkening to edges; signatures at middle just started; interior hinges are cracking, but still solid; light brown imprinting to verso of half-title, to tissue over frontispiece, & faintly to title page; tissue over second color plate at front of book is wrinkled & has brown imprinting, which carries over faintly to the previous page & to the verso of the plate; ragged hole in center of tissue over color plate following p. 534, w/ a few small bits of tissue adhering to plate; the occasional spot of light soil to some pages early in book / Illustrations include a B&W frontispiece portrait of the author, two color plates, and over one hundred B&W illustrations, including several maps. /. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good -. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
