About This Item
Oxford: Printed by W Hall for Tho. Bowman , 1672 A good copy in contemporary leather binding rebacked with newer spine and title, author and date labels. The work is considered to be one of the first looking primarily at winds. Ralph Bohun was a Fellow of the Royal Society and gathered considerable information from sea voyages. It has been suggested that this could be the first work referencing barometers and the possibility of using a barometer to detect and forecast cyclones. The binding is in near fine condition with newer leather at the corners and edges. The board leather has some scuffing. Internally there are newer endpapers. There is the signature of Richard Handley to the initial blank and a practice 'Richard' underneath. The title page has been relaid and has loss to edges just affecting text. It has the signature of Richard Mason to verso. Contents: title; contents 2pp; text pp 1- 302 with 3 illustrations in the text at pp 18, 19 and 24. The contents are toned with occasional staining at edges and are quite close on the gutter. There has been some professional paper repair: side edge contents pp; side edge 263-5; 299-302 - 302 has some old notes on it. The illustration at p18 has loss to side margin; pp 29 and 97 have lost corner tips; scholarly ink note on p 146; mispagination with continuous text - 158-195-160.

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
