London: Thames and Hudson,, 1954. First edition in English, first impression. The novel was first published in French as La Fin des Ambassades in 1953, and this is the first translation by Edward Hyams is the first into English. Octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine in gilt, motif to centre of front board in gilt. With dust jacket. Spine rolled and ends rubbed, but binding firm, faint offsetting to endpapers and spots to textblock edges, but internally clean; a very good copy in the jacket, spine faded and chipped at head with several closed tears and creases, edges toned, flaps creased.
