Small Quarto. 139 (1)pp. Original brown wraps with black publisher's device, lettering and double border on cover, protected by modern mylar. illustrated front endpaper. Frontispiece title page in French. Title page with black double border and publisher's device. Dedicated to the President of the Jewish Parish in Antwerp. Portrayal of life and work 25 outstanding Jewish men (Wundermänner / Baal-Schem) who have emerge from the middle of the 11th century to date, including Benjamin ben Serach, Adam Baal-Schem, Joel (I) ben Isak Heilpern, Simon Wolf, Josef Baal-Schem, Israel Friedfertig, and others. Most of the portrayals had been published in the periodical "Freie jüdische Lehrerstimme" in 1919, and appear here in an edited and expanded version. Includes essay on the history of the older Kabbalah and appendices at rear. Text in German, with some Hebrew translations. Wraps with light wear along edges and spine. Starting lightly at foreword. Light age-toning along edges and some pages of block uncut at top. Wraps in overall very good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
