It also includes various useful appendixes on signatures, texts, biographies of the creators, notes on bindings, iconography, handwriting comparisons, figure comparisons and other matter for the student/scholar of these works. **Austrian author/editor Otto Pächt (1902-1988) wrote much about the medieval and renaissance art history of Europe while in exile from the Nazis, both in London at the Courtauld Institute, and later at Oxford. After the War he was able to return to Austria as Director of the Dept. of Manuscripts at the National Library of Vienna, where this work originated. He taught in the United States in later years.
