Tafelnband: mit 334 Abbildungen und 9 Farbtafeln (unpaginated) und Liste der Abbildungen. Hard cover, 4to. (measuring 8 1/2 x 12 1/8 inches), in red publisher's cloth with titles in gold to front board and spine. The red cloth covered slipcase has a color reproduction to the front. Condition: books, Very Good , very clean, tight and bright, glossy paper, spines lightly sunned. Hinges have been taped. A few small stains to rear of one volume. Slipcase is Very Good, with slight sunning.****Illuminated Manuscripts and Incunabula of the Dutch School at the Austrian National Library of Vienna, published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Philosophical-Historical Memoranda, Vol. 124, Herbert Hunger, series editor, Otto Pächt Publisher, Vienna, No. 3 in series. This item consists of a set of two books in a slipcase. The Plate Book has a list of the high quality black and white reproductions of the 334 medieval Dutch manuscripts and incunabula of the collection, plus nine plates in color. The Text volume provides updated catalog descriptions of the Plates. It also includes various useful appendixes on signatures, texts, biographies of the creators, notes on bindings, iconography, handwriting comparisons, figure comparisons and other matter for the student/scholar of these works. **Austrian author/editor Otto Pächt (1902-1988) wrote much about the medieval and renaissance art history of Europe while in exile from the Nazis, both in London at the Courtauld Institute, and later at Oxford. After the War he was able to return to Austria as Director of the Dept. of Manuscripts at the National Library of Vienna, where this work originated. He taught in the United States in later years. The University of Vienna continues Pächt's work at their Pächt Archive/Research Centre for the Medieval Book, Image and Culture. OCLC I 219454710, II 863438380. . First Edition. Hard Cover.
