About This Item
(Cape Town: Publisitas, foreword 1954). 4to; original maroon cloth, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover; pp. 311, incl. index; numerous portrait photographs in text. Boards slightly bumped and rubbed; upper joint chafed; earlier owner's hand-stamp to front free endpaper, with penned accession date 13-1-1955, his hand-stamp also at the end of the volume. Very good condition. Afrikaans text. Around 240 pages are devoted to pen portraits of leading Afrikaners in every sphere at the time. The balance of the book is concerned with Afrikaner surnames and their origins. This uncommon publication is an invaluable "who's who" for Afrikaner society at the zenith of its influence. .
