A profusly illustrated work on Victorian painters, complied by the leading Victorian authority, Christopher Wood. The second, enlarged edition of this work, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. This work is generally considered the standard text-book for Victorian painting, with information on the lives and artistic styles of over eleven hundred artists. With helpful information of the abbreviations used, referencing schools studied under, and exhibition and gallery references. Written by Christopher Wood. Wood was an art dealer, who was at the forefront during the time of the revival in interest in Victorian art in the twentieth century. He specialised in Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian works, and studied at St John's College Cambridge, where he read Fine Arts. He was a prolific author, publishing 'The Pre-Raphaelites', 'Olympian Dreamers', 'Painted Gardens', 'Victorian Painting in Oils and Watercolours', 'Fairies in Victorian Art', and more. With two-hundred and twenty-five pages of monochrome plates to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Front hinge is starting to the tail but remains firm. Minor edgewear to dustwrapper, mostly to the head and tail of the spine, with light creases to the joints. Price label to the tail of the front flyleaf, 'Antique Collectors' Club, £27.50'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
