About This Item

Suffolk: Antique Collectors' Club, 1976. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 11" by 8". Various. A reference work compiling information on British artists from the years 1880 to 1940, held in the original unclipped pictorial dustwrapper. The first edition of this work, in the original unclipped pictorial dustwrapper. This work is an extensive reference work to artists of the first half of the twentieth century, at a time when that period of painting was seeing a rise in popularity again. It was previously quite undocumented, with books only focusing on particular schools and movements. The two authors recorded 41,000 artists, noting their favoured genre of painting, birth and death years, and their addresses. It is generally considered to be the standard work on the subject. Complied by Jane Johnson and A. Greutzner. In the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light edgewear to the dustwrapper, being heavier to the head and tail of the spine. Minor sunning to the spine, with a little creasing to the joints. A very little discolouration to the reverse of the dustwrapper. Old price label to the front flyleaf, 'Antique Collectors' Club £19.50'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
