About This Item
Good. 19th century stereoview with photographer's imprint on mount. Stereoview measures 4" x 7". Titled in the negative. On front mount reads "Yellowstone National Park Series, Photographed by T. W. Ingersoll, St. Paul. Yellowstone National Park Views." Photographer's imprint on verso is quite lengthy, but starts with "Ingersoll's Yellowstone National Park, Alaska, North Pacific Coast & Western Views
" Mount has moderate toning, soiling and wear; photograph has moderate yellowing and soiling. Overall good. This excellent photograph depicts two men lounging in a horse-drawn carriage parked next to the "Devils Punch Bowl" in Yellowstone National Park. The Punch Bowl is an actively boiling spring with a raised geyserite rim and here makes for quite a unique image. The photographer of this shot, Truman Ward Ingersoll (1862-1922), was a prolific photographer and stereoview publisher. He first traveled to Yellowstone in 1883 and made four series of the national park. We couldn't find any comps of this photograph in commerce as of March 2022. .
