About This Item

New York: Harcourt, Brace & World, 1957?. FOURTH EDITION REVISED STATED. VERY GOOD +. HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents the "gold standard" for theatre history over many, many decades: ALLARDYCE NICOLL'S THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE THEATRE. 319 photos and illustrations fill the 318 pages (including index) of this Fourth revised edition (stated). This may well be a first U S printing of this edition since all dates are missing. Worldcat indicates this edition was either 1957 or 1958. Not published since the early 70's, this fascinating history of the theatre is HARD TO FIND. 7 7/8" x 10 1/2", 318 pages, with no dust jacket. Overall book is VERY GOOD PLUS. Pages = Very Good Plus: pen underlining on 10 of the 318 pages, owners name and addy on both reverse front and reverse back cover, pages slightly yellowed, else clear, tight, sharp, no additional marks. Cover (green buckram boards with particulars in gold gilt) = Very Good Plus: light to moderate rubbing, indentation punch near title front, two 2" scratches on back, else very tight, clear, sharp and square.
