About This Item

Philadelphia: Holmes Publishing Co., 1992. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. The last novel of Sims, an Englishman who served in British Intelligence during World War II and tried a career as a journalist before becoming a London bookseller. He wrote three non-fiction books about "the rare book game" and twelve novels, most of them bibliomysteries featuring booksellers. In "The Despain Papers," London rare bookdealer, Jack Quinn, is asked by an American customer to find out what happened to the papers of Gerald Despain, a fanatical anti-semite and British traitor who fled to Germany to join the Nazis at the start of World War II. Quinn's search stirs up the past back to the 1930s when Despain resided in Kenya and results in three cold-blooded murders with Quinn suddenly realizing he may be number four. A First Edition limited to 650 copies. Boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The black dustjacket shows only some minor rubbing and perhaps a touch of edgewear. Collectable. Scarce.
