About This Item

London:: Chapman and Hall,, 1910.. First edition.. Hardcover. Very Good. x, 123p, with decoratively patterned endpapers. After the Preface, two pages of Contents, and six pages of introduction, there are 58 openings, each with a formalised art nouveau design (each based on a species of plant) recto, with an explanatory caption facing. The author is keen to encourage the student to follow his principles. The designs are printed in intense black, which is sometimes slightly discernible from the reverse side. Some spotting to the extreme edges of the pages, and the pages which back on to the endpapers are foxed. 10 x 6.75 ins, in the original binding of brown cloth, decorated and titled in black. Firm, clean and bright, corners good, spine ends puckered, and with a small snag to the foot of the upper joint. A good copy. [Five years after the present book was published, Wadsworth became Art Director of the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company.]

About Chapel Books

I sell books from a large disused Chapel next to the village duck pond, where I have lived about 40 years: just inland from Dunwich and between Southwold and Aldeburgh. I open 7 days a week, 12-5.
