Plus elaborate engraved frontispiece portrait of Charvet and 6 lithograph plates bound at end. With numerous engraved illustrations of seals to text. Extended index. HARDCOVER, bound in contemporary boards, some stains, with the original printed wrapper laid-down. Paper spine with manuscript lettering, frayed. In a very good condition. A wide margined copy, untrimmed, well preserved interior. ~ Rare first edition of this important work on seals, published by the author himself. The preserved original wrapper is dated 1873. A second edition was published eight years later by Édouard Rouveyre (Paris, 1880). Charvet describes here in detail 638 seals from his own collection; the name "Dongé" is believed to be pseudonim. In 1883 he published the work "Collection Charvet: Médailles, antiquités, sceaux-matrices". Z-2 IN
