1946. BROOKE, Rupert. DEMOCRACY AND THE ARTS. With a preface by Geoffrey Keynes. London: Rupert Hart-Davis, 1946. First, limited edition, with a publisher's presentation slip laid-in; this is number 164 of 240 copies printed on part-rag paper, quarter bound in red niger leather, with marbled paper made by Douglas Cockerell & Son. Frontispiece portrait in photogravure by Emery Walker from a photograph by V. H. Mottram. viii, 32 pp. Slim 8vo., t.e.g. The text leaves are gently rippled, but very clean and fresh. The leather is considerably darkened at the spine and at the top-edge, with a tiny nick at crown. Overall, this is a very good copy. The text is a lecture read by Brooke to the Cambridge University Fabian Society on 24 November, 1910. This publication was the first of the firm Rupert Hart-Davis Limited. (Keynes 46).
