Very good, 1st edition, missing d/j, bottle green clothbound boards and gilt spine titling bright; text block firm; pages tight and unmarked, but tanned at edges. Neat owner's inscription on ffep.. 8vo: crown (200 x 140 / 8"" x 5_""). Brooke's essay was first written in 1910 as an address to the Cambridge Fabian Society of which Brooke was president while up at King's. Only published posthumously in 1946.
