Hardback copyright 1906; revised second edition; a classic in the training of secretaries in the art of shorthand at the turn of the twentieth century; black leather boards with gilt lettering; two gently bumped corners; outer edge of front board shows a couple barely discernible dings to outer edge; text block tight and square; faint damp-staining to gutters of a couple inside pages; some margin notation in pencil; a couple inspirational poems, including the first verse of a poem titled "Sand", from the "Railroad Trainmen's Journal", are written in pencil on both end-papers; also includes what appears to be a tuition receipt from Capital Commercial College in Topeka, Kansas; approximately 100 pages (wbc)

Small octavo; viii; [2]; 78pp. Upper external hinge beginning to separate, else a Near Fine copy in dark green pebbled leatherette with gilt titling to upper cover along with 'Presented to Jessie Wheeler by the author.'. "A system of shorthand writing combining the principles of straight joinable and insertable vowel strokes and curved consonant strokes, both being subject to similar general rules of hooks and length." Isaac Strange Dement was the official reporter of the Eighth Judicial System of Michigan, editor of the 'National Stenographer.'
