Modena: La Societa' Tipografica. 1st Edition. Bound in early marbled boards with vellum spine and corners. Very Good. First edition work on the study of early Italian languages and of epigraphy. Text in Italian. Bound in early marbled boards with vellum spine and corners. Marbled paper is worn and scuffed with general wear. Vellum spine has hand written title and author with some additional discoloration and staining from time. Overall, covers are worn, but very strong. Bookplate and former store sticker on front pastedown. Pencil note on ffep. Large woodcut vignette depicting a geographical map of Italy held up by cherubs with a view of the city of Modena in the background with the Ghirlandina tower. Additional engraving on page 1 by Perotti. Interior has creasing, general toning with minor spotting, but all is in excellent condition and legible. Wide margins, rough cut edges, some edges uncut or partially cut.
