Santa Ana, California: Fine Arts Press. Good. 1936. First Edition. Collection of hand-colored plates housed in a quarter leather portfolio. Issued with 50 plates, this copy has 51 plates (plate 36 is in duplicate). Plates are unbound, as issued, and measure 9 ¾ x 12 ½. Title pages has moderate soiling from the portfolio and moderate creasing to corners. Plates have light soiling and a few have creasing near the edges. Portfolio has heavy wear; the leather strap is frayed, the spine is cracked and has moderate soiling, and most edges are cracked but have been repaired by the previous owner with clear tape. Overall good condition. The hand-colored plates in this publication depict designs on pottery, basketry and other artifacts of southwestern Native peoples. The plates were drawn by Dorothy Smith Sides, the annotations on verso of each plate were written by Mrs. Frederick Robinson Smith (Clarice Martin Smith) and the forward was written by Frederick Webb Hodge. A beautiful selection of designs. .
