It tells the story of Jack Ryan, a young man drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Ryan is assigned to the 1st Marine Division, which is then deployed to Vietnam. The 1st Marine Division is involved in many significant battles, including the Battle of Hue and the Battle of Khe Sanh. Ryan is wounded in the Battle of Khe Sanh and is sent home to recuperate. Ryan returns to Vietnam as a lieutenant colonel and leads the 1st Marine Division in several more battles, including the Battle of Ia Drang. The 1st Marine Division is eventually disbanded, and Ryan is honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.; 8vo; 766 pages .

Synopsis

Debt of Honor (1994) is a novel by Tom Clancy. It is a continuation of the series featuring his character Jack Ryan. In this installment, Ryan has become the National Security Advisor when the Japanese government (controlled by a group of corporate tycoons known as the Zaibatsu) goes to war with the United States. One of the sub-plots in this novel (on occupying the Siberian "Northern Resource Area") would later form part of the main plot of Clancy's later novel The Bear and the Dragon.
