About This Item

London: Gerald Duckworth, 1978. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white photos, map, minor edgewear jacket (flap price-clipped), cover corners lightly bumped, bookplates, edges & pages lightly toned. 103 pp. About the last two fatal days -13th and 14th February 1779 - of Captain Cook's life. The author has analysed afresh all the contemporary eyewitness accounts and has studied the terrain in Hawaii himself. He presents the story in a new light, examining step-by-step the incidents that followed Cook's decision, made in a fit of temper, to use force against the islanders and seize the Hawaiian king as hostage.
