About This Item

Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, 1990. A slim book in near fine condition (top corners bumped) with a near fine dust jacket (lightly rubbed with a tiny bit of top edgewear). The author, a well-known sociologist, writes of his difficult childhood growing up in a Jewish remnant in Harlem, a ghetto within a ghetto. His family had fled persecution in the Ukrainian pale. In Harlem, he writes, they were "a vilified Jewish minority within a mortified black minority, to use the imagery employed by Booker T. Washington in 'The Man Farthest Down.'" . 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Illus. by Photographs.
