Eleanor Emily Hodgman Porter was an American author. She was born as Eleanor Emily Hodgman in Littleton, New Hampshire, on December 19, 1868, to her parents Llewella Woolson French and Francis Fletcher Hodgman. She was taught as a singer, going to the New England Conservatory for many years. In 1892, she married John Lyman Porter and moved to Massachusetts, where she commenced her writing career and creating her short fiction and then books. She died in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 21, 1920, and her burial place was at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Eleanor Emily authored primarily children's books, adventure fiction, and love stories. Her best known story book is Pollyanna, and its sequel, Pollyanna Grows Up. Her other books include The Turn of the Tide, The Road to Understanding, Oh Money! Money!, Mary Marie, and Sister Sue. Her collections of short stories include Across the Years, Money, Love and Kate, and Little Pardner.
