About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1924. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. First edition thus, with the Scribner's seal on the copyright page. This sequel begins precisely as Kidnapped (1886) ends, at 2 pm on 25 August 1751, outside the British Linen Company in Edinburgh, Scotland. Including this book, N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945) illustrated a total of 16 books for the Scribner's Illustrated Classics series, more than any other illustrator. Tall octavo: 356 p. with a color title page, 9 color plates, and color endpapers by N.C. Wyeth. Original black cloth binding, with a color N.C. Wyeth illustration inset on the front panel and gilt titles. In the scarce dust jacket, which is somewhat edgeworn and toned with some minor staining along the bottom edge and a few brown paper reinforcements to the verso; otherwise very good.
