About This Item

New York: The Hobart Co., 1903 Book. Fine. Hardcover. First edition. This is the true first edition with "Published March 15, 1903" on copyright page. 306pp. plus 8 black & white plates. Red pictorial cloth, gilt lettering, color photographic paste-down of Indian maiden on front cover, top edges gilt. Original owner's neat inscription and date on end (Dec. 25, 1903). A very fine copy. A very bright copy of General King's work, with illustrations by Frederic Remington and Edwin Willard Deming. A government surveyor suspects that Nanette, known at Fort Frayne as the "daughter of the Sioux" is giving information about the fort's defenses to the Indians. Nanette turns out to be a white child stolen long ago by the Sioux. Intrigue, love, etc. A pretty good story..
