This catalogue of the Andrei Rublev Museum of Medieval Russian Culture and Art publishes approximately 500 works of art that were donated to the museum over roughly a half century. Works of icon-painting predominate but the museum also acquired illuminated manuscripts, embroidery, metalwork, fragments of frescoes, all of which are scrupulously catalogued here, and many of them are illustrated in full-page color plates. The provenance of the works is quite varied: some icons originate in Moscow workshops, others in the Urals, and still others are from the Russian North and the Volga region, where Old-Believer workshops were active.
