London and New York: Macmillan and Co., 1879. First Edition. viii; 283(30)pp. Octavo. Bound in original dark blue cloth with blind stamped rules. Gilt title and rules on the spine. Brown endpapers. Macmillan & Co. advertisements at the back. Wear on corners and spine. Foxing on some pages. In good condition. Inscription from the author to "Mrs. C.F. Browning" on the half title page dated Dec. 25, 1879. There is also two more owner's inscriptions on the half title page. This book is a a collection of Fiske's essays explaining Darwin's theories, which was crucial for the spread of Darwin's ideas in America. An uncommon title. 1879
