Reviews

On Oct 25 2023, a reader said:
"The Dark is Only Half the Story" is a woeful compilation of clichés, narcissistic dribble, and amateurish writing. This so-called memoir-style collection of poetry attempts to draw the reader in with grandiose promises, but instead, it falls flat on its face, offering little more than self-indulgent drivel.

The author's attempt to "welcome you into her home" is a pretentious and failed endeavor. Rather than a heartfelt and genuine invitation, it feels like an insincere and melodramatic plea for sympathy. The stories of self-destruction, shame, and abuse, while undoubtedly painful experiences, are presented in such a way that it becomes impossible to connect with the author on any meaningful level. Instead of eliciting empathy, the writing reeks of self-absorption.

The constant use of tired clichés and platitudes is an insult to the intelligence of the reader yet are sprinkled throughout the text like confetti at a poorly planned party. They add nothing to the narrative and serve only to further highlight the lack of originality in the author's approach.

Moreover, the author's relentless insistence on being the center of attention, offering a "front-row seat to her entire life," is grating and self-aggrandizing. It's as if the book exists solely to stroke the author's ego, with little regard for the reader's experience.

In the end, "The Dark is Only Half the Story" is a prime example of the worst aspects of self-indulgent, poorly executed writing. It's a collection that tries to be profound but ends up drowning in its own melodrama and clichés, leaving readers with little more than a sense of wasted time and a yearning for more authentic and skillful storytelling.
