About This Item
New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1949. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Very Good. 8.5" by 6". Not Stated. A bright first edition copy of this crime novel from the Major North series by prolific American writer F. Van Wyck Mason. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Francis Van Wyck Mason (1901-1978) was an American historian and best-selling novelist. He had a long and prolific career as a writer spanning 50 years and including 78 published novels. This work is the sixteenth novel from the Major North series, in which Major North finds himself entangled in the international intrigue of a struggle between Turkish and American agents. Captain (later Major and Colonel) Hugh North was a prototype for James Bond: he was tough, athletic, a good shot and hand-to-hand fighter, but also fitted into elegant society with refined dress and manner. This series sometimes foreshadowed actual military events, including a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper is bright, though the spine is sunned, with minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine. A little shelf wear to the folds of the wraps, otherwise smart. Fine
