About This Item
MP3 Audio CD. The Dance of Death is divided into two plays, The Dance of Death I, and The Dance of Death II. The Dance of Death I is the story of a man and his wife who despise one another, and are conjoined in a tragic marriage. They are about to celebrate their 25 years of marriage. Edgar, the husband, is a retired artillery captain. Alice, his wife, is an actress before. They are not social with their neighbors. Their children do not live with them. Edgar has a heart ailment and might not live longer. He opts her out of his last will. Kurt, a cousin of Alice, learned that Edgar worked with Kurt?s wife to obtain a divorce and lose custody of their children. Kurt and Alice connived and got intimate. The Dance of Death II, Alice discusses the fall of Edgar in Part I, it almost killed him but he acquired some monetary benefits and made Kurt lose his money. Alice became more inhumane. Judith, their daughter, wants to marry Allan, Kurt?s son, but Allan?s grandfather does not like the idea. It seems like the love and hatred of the family will live on. Johan August Strindberg was a dramatist, author, poet, essayist and painter from Sweden. He was a well-recognized author who frequently gets his ideas from his life experiences, his literary career spontaneously lasted for four decades, and he had written more than 60 plays and over 30 texts of fiction, autobiography, history, cultural analysis, and politics. He was an established adventurer and cynic all throughout, he discovered a variety of play methods and strategies, from naturalistic tragedy, monodrama, and history plays, to his apprehension of stylish and dreamlike dramatic methods. From one of his primary works, he created new techniques of theatrical action, language and visualization. Strindberg is regarded as the father of today?s Swedish literature and his work, The Red Room in 1879 has often been considered as the first creative Swedish text.
