Slight soiling, rubbing and browning to covers (cloth; chiefly at edges); slight stains to lower edges; slight internal uniform browning (chiefly to endpapers and edges). [6], 311, [2] pages. Probable later Modern Library issue of the German naturalistic playwright's most famous novel (originally published in Germany in 1887 under title: Frau Sorge). With the original dedicatory poem (in both German and in English translation) and the translator's notes at rear. Date is conjectural (not dated in book); 'Printed in / the United States of America' (title page verso).1 b/w Photograph (frontispiece portrait); Pictorial Endpapers (gray/light brown).
