This was the earliest edition solely dedicated to the writings of Damasus. Greek and latin text.Pope Damasus I (c.305-384) was one of the important early popes. With St. Jerome as his secretary he supported the production of the Vulgata Bible and he presided over the Council of Rome of 382 that determined the canon of sacred scriptures and he also began referring to Rome as the apostolic see. He fought against major heresies in the church and encouraged the veneration of martyrs and he introduced Latin as the official language of the mass. Among his texts are letters, some disputed, and poems, epigrams on martyrs and saints.
