London: Adam and Charles Black, 1908. Octavo. xvi, 367 pages, illustrated by Margaret Thomas with 86 unnumbered plates (some in color), folding map at the end. John Kelman had written important books on biblical aspects of geology and archaeology. He has integrated many ancient histories of the region and for this work George Adam Smith consulted with him to the part surrounding Palmyra. Bound in cream decorative cloth decorated in light blue and light green and white, lettered in black decorative spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, spine darkened, light wear to corners with light finger soiling, rear inner hinge had been reglued in spots. A very good copy.
