London: William Heinemann Ltd. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1925. New Edition. Hardcover. New Edition. Burgundy cloth covers with gilt titling to the front board and spine. The spine and edges of the rear board are Very slightly faded, but only minorly and all titling clear and very legible. NO dustjacket. The page fore-edges are lightly tanned with age and have a little foxing (very light browny spots). Top edge quite 'dusty'. Overall a very good copy. Browning to the front free and rear free endpaper and it looks as if the rear internal hinge has been re-glued at some point but a sound, tight copy. Internally No Inscriptions or other Marks. Colour and b/w (half-tone) llustrations, and line drawings at the front of the book. (xvii) + (3) + 753 pp. Many illustrations from photographs, art-works and from pen-and-ink drawings by Phillip Ward. Includes chapters on: - Origin and Development of Etiquette; The Story of Speech; Debutantes of Yesterday; A Short History of Courtship; Marriage Customs; Gift-Making; Correspondance and the History of Writing; Calling Customs; Hospitality and Entertainment; The Tale of Table Manners; The Dance; Dress through the Centuries; Funeral Customs; Concerning Children; Popular Superstitions, and Survivals in Games, etc. Overall a VG tight clean copy.
