The Sioux Indians, settlers, and the US Army were at peace from the Treaty of 1868 until gold was discovered in the Black Hills of the Dakota Territory. The 7th Cavalry Regiment was sent in 1874 to the area to ascertain the rumors of gold and once verified, the treaty was in shreds and prospectors flooded in removing the Black Hills from Sioux control. This book tells the story of the effect the expedition had on Sioux relations and on the drawing of more settlers/prospectors to the area and fanning the flames of future problems with the Sioux Indians. A clean very presentable copy.
