MacMillan Company, 1904. Hardcover. Fair - Cash/No Jacket. Red cover with gold lettering and detailing on the cover and spine. The color and lettering on the spine is faded. The cover is coming away from the book. The corners have been bumped. The boards are showing through the corners. Part of the boards on the inside of the back cover have been exposed. There is soiling to some of the page edges. There are several cracks in the spine throughout the book. The binding is loose, the pages appear to be secure. Stock photos may not look exactly like the book.

This book has been named "The Crossing" because I have tried to express in it the beginnings of that great movement across the mountains which swept resistless over the Continent until at last it saw the Pacific itself. The Crossing was the first instinctive reaching out of an infant nation which was one day to become a giant.
