Eric Williams (1911-1981) was Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobego from 1961 to 1981. He was educated at Oxford & taught at Howard University in Washington DC from 1939 to 1953. Returning to Trinidad in 1955 he founded his country's first formal political party, and in 1962 led his country to independence. (Columbia Encyclopedia) .
