About This Item
London: Alston Rivers, 1905. Gorky wrote this novella in 1897. This is a Very Good copy of the Second Edition (stated; published just one week after the First) of the first English version. Translation from the Russian by J.K.M. Shirazi. With an Introduction by G.K. Chesterton. Not a common title. Yellow cloth binding with red titling and decorations on the front cover; red titling on the spine. Clean text; 94 pages, with two pages of publisher's adverts in the rear; there is a bit of underlining, mainly to the Introduction. There are actually two title pages; the first is a striking print by Henry Ospovat (1877-1909). Mildly bumped; spine darkened with rubbing to head and foot; small stain on front cover.. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Henry Osporat. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
