About This Item

London and New York: MacMillan and Co, 1891. First Thus. Hardcover. Good. Hugh Thompson. 8vo. Pp. 297, [3]. Frontis. illus. with tissue guard. Illustrated with Hugh Thompson sketches, the tailpiece being a full plate. Bound in dark green cloth with elaborate gilt design on front cover, also by Hugh Thompson, and gilt lettering on spine that's a bit dulled. All edges gilt. Foxing, mostly to preliminaries. With a snag at the head of the spine. Slightly cocked and a tad shaken. Corners bumped. The first edition with Hugh Thompson illustrations. Despite condition issues, this copy remains well bound and presentable. A fine example of elaborate period gilt cloth. Scarce.
