But the set is externally very rough -- covers bruised, battered & stained, hinges broken or weak, some edges rubbed through, moth-eatenscarring, some backstrip missing on one or two books etc etc etc etc -- yet despite all faults appears to be a complete & substantially intact copy of a significant & RARE GENEALOGICAL TREASURE TROVE for England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales mid-1800's, just prior to the major colonial emigrations. Original publishers paper wraps, printed in gold, both front - which is illustrated, and rear, are bound in. Attractive early leather binding of full red pebble grained morocco. Gilt ruled and dotted line, with floral devices, design to both boards and spine. Front board lettered in gilt. Board edges with gilt dots. Marbled endpapers. Eight line poetic inscription to the front blank free endpaper. Faded light purple ex library stamp to the title page and the leaf with the inscription. Overall a very good and attractively bound copy of this uncommon little book. Copac shows just 3 copies of this 1858 edition, and one of those listed as only having 10 of the plates.

London : W. Nicoll, 1769 A good copy of a very scarce work, originally issued as part of a two volume work called 'The City Remembrancer'. This consisted of 3 books, with separate title pages and pagination, on the Great Plague, Fire and Storm of London. The title page for the 'Remembrancer' states that the source material for the work is Dr Gideon Harvey's papers. Dr Harvey ?1640-?1700 became the king's 'Physician to the Tower'. He is known for a variety of medical works (and for using his writing to discredit other physicians). This copy has been rebound by Bath Municipal Reference Library, and is in a near fine buckram cloth binding with gilt title, reference number and date to spine. The internal endpaper joints are reinforced and there is the armorial library bookplate to the fep, together with some reference numbers at the top. There are no other library markings. Full dark blue levant morocco bindings with fancy gilt turn ins, full bright gilt edges, decorative spine with gilt lozenge design, red leather labels in compartments between raised bands and bound by Holloway. Bookplate on endpaper. Minor brown blemishes to the colour plates and on the pages opposite. Wear to the joints on v.2, front joint is cracked down to the first compartment, otherwise are tender, covers are lightly rubbed with scattered dark blemishes and minor wear to the gilt edges, top corners on both volumes are slightly chipped and bumped. Otherwise both volumes are both firmly bound and in very good condition. 504 & 643 pp. .
