Half calf over marbled boards, spine in six compartments separated by raised bands, gilt lettering in two compartments, gilt tooling in remainder, t.e.g., marbled endpapers. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait of Josephine. Translated from the French by Thomas Sergeant Perry. Arthur Léon Imbert de Saint - Amand (1834-1900), a nineteenth century aristocrat, choreographer, and historian of his times, was born in France. He is best-known for his accounts of the aristocracy, which include Last Years of Louis XV: La Cour de Louis XIV, The Court of the Empress Josephine, The Duchess of Berry and the Court of Charles X, and The Happy Days of the Empress Marie Louise. He died at the age of 66. This is the third volume of his three volume biography of Josephine, published by Scribner's in a series titled Famous Women of the French Court..
